Liverpool upbeat on Firmino injury recovery

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino's hamstring injury is understood not to be serious.

The Liverpool Echo says Firmino will have further assessment on his hamstring injury - with the striker facing a race against time to be fit for the start of Liverpool's Champions League campaign.

Firmino underwent scans to ascertain the extent of the damage that forced him to limp off shortly before half-time during the 1-1 Premier League draw at home to Chelsea on Saturday.

While the initial diagnosis is the injury is not serious, the striker must undergo more tests and is expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.

Firmino had in any case been ruled of Brazil's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, joining compatriots Alisson Becker and Fabinho in staying in England due to quarantine issues.

He's now unlikely to feature when Liverpool resume after the international break with a Premier League trip to Leeds United on Sunday, September 12.
