Liverpool in Sunderland peace talks over Jones

Liverpool have sought to end their differences with Sunderland over the pursuit of Kenwyne Jones.

The News of the World says Reds managing director Christian Purslow called Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn over the weekend for clear-the-air talks following the ill-fated pursuit of Jones.

The Black Cats were furious at claims they were prepared to allow Jones move to Anfield on loan, but Purslow wanted to reassure his counterpart there was no attempt to unsettle the player.

Intermediaries claiming to act on behalf of Sunderland approached several clubs at the start of the month offering Jones on loan with an obligation to buy this summer.
