Toronto FC director of player development Paul Mariner feels Stefan Frei's training stint with Premier League club Liverpool will benefit club and player greatly.
The 25-year old Swiss goalkeeper has linked up with the Reds for a winter training spell and the move has been welcomed by ex-Arsenal and Ipswich Town striker Mariner.
"He picked up his injury (during the 2011 season) and then Milos Kocic came in and did very well (this season). Stefan is a super professional and he understood it, but we thought it might be good for Stefan to go over and build his confidence up to make sure he has a good feeling about coming back.
"We're in a very fortunate position with two superb goalkeepers.""Liverpool is a sensational club and I hope that Stefan is going to go over and learn some stuff. It will be a fantastic experience for him," he told the Toronto Sun.
