Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez hopes to land goalkeeper Maik Taylor from relegated Birmingham City.

Taylor is off contract next month and has emerged as a shock summer target for Benitez as back-up to Pepe Reina.

Charles Itandje has failed to cut it in the top flight when called upon and Taylor, 36, has more than a decade of Premier League experience behind him.
