Liverpool have slapped in a £15 million take-it-or-leave-it offer for Valencia winger David Silva.

The Daily Mail says Benitez thought he had struck a deal for Silva but reacted angrily after the Spanish club leaked details of the proposed move to try to bump up the price.

The stand-off has forced Benitez to widen his search for a winger, with Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing his new No 1 target.
