Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard could be out for the season.
He had hoped to play a part in Saturday's game at West Brom after groin surgery.
But Kenny Dalglish revealed the inspirational midfielder had to cut short a training session on Friday after feeling more sharp pain in his groin.
Kop boss Dalglish - who also lost defenders Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger to injuries during Saturday's 2-1 defeat - said: "Steven turned and felt a sharp pain.
"It's the same area but not the same injury.
"I don't know when he will be back. I've got to look at what the damage is."
