Xherdan Shaqiri's move to Liverpool has been four years in the works.

The Swiss wanted to join the Reds in 2014, but was blocked by then Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.

“I wanted to leave that summer and had offers from Liverpool and Atletico," Shaqiri told Spox.

“Brendan Rodgers called me several times before the World Cup. But Bayern forbid me to leave."

Shaqiri ended up staying until January 2015 when he left for Inter Milan. He lasted just six months at the San Siro before moving on to Stoke.
