Liverpool's Rodgers: Recovery the key to keeping Gerrard on the pitch

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says an intricate recovery plan is the ideal way to keep skipper Steven Gerrard at his peak fitness.

The 33-year old England captain managed 46 appearances last season and has hardly missed a beat since Rodgers took over from Kenny Dalglish last summer after some injury worries the previous two campaigns.

Ahead of Monday's trip to Swansea City, Rodgers has revealed that it takes a few days of careful planning for Gerrard to stay at the peak of his powers.

" "You need to analyse the person, what age he is at and the body type he is," said Rodgers. "One of the biggest things in our method of work is the recovery method.

"Stevie for example plays on the Saturday, recovers on the Sunday doing pulls, stretch and massage, on the Tuesday recovers further with maybe a light jog. It's a long load of low intensity recovery.

"You saw that before the international break when Stevie was fit enough to play Saturday, Tuesday (in the League Cup) and Sunday. We have individual plans for every player."
