Liverpool's Rodgers explains reasons for playing Toure over Lovren

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Kolo Toure was selected over Dejan Lovren on the weekend purely because of his attitude.

The Ivory Coast veteran played in a three-man defence alongside Mamadou Sakho and Emre Can in the Reds' 4-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday which prompted criticism regarding the personnel used.

However, Rodgers says Toure got the nod over Lovren, who had just returned from international duty, because of his approach.

"The thing with Kolo is he gives me everything every single day so I know what I am going to get with him," said Rodgers.

But Lovren may be recalled for Wednesday night's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Blackburn Rovers according to the Anfield boss.

"Dejan was obviously out over the international break but now he is fighting well and looking strong. He will be in contention for the Cup game for sure," he added.
