Liverpool old-boy Molby offers advice to struggling Henderson

Former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby believes Jordan Henderson should play in central midfield to get the best out of the England U21 international. Since his big-money summer move from Sunderland Henderson has been given a role on the right by boss Kenny Dalglish.

Molby reckons the 21-year-old needs to be given more time to adapt and find his rightful place in the side.

"It is clear to me now that right wing is not Jordan's best position," he told the Liverpool Echo. "He is a high-tempo player, one who pressurises opponents and does things instinctively; in short, he is a central midfielder.

"I know from experience that it can be hard to settle into a new club, a new midfield, right away.

"It took me a year or so to fully adapt, and even that was aided by the signing of Steve McMahon to play alongside me. I think the expectation and the pressure is affecting Henderson's performance, no question.

"It hasn't happened for him and he looks a little bit lost - but he is a young lad learning his trade and there is plenty of time for him."
