Liverpool have made an opening offer for Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen. The Sun says the Reds have made a bid of £12.5million for Allen.

The Welsh club confirmed last night there had been an approach by former boss Brendan Rodgers, while Tottenham have also joined the race for the 22-year-old.

It is understood the Kop outfit offered Jonjo Shelvey on loan for the forthcoming season, but the move was quickly rebuffed.
