Liverpool legend Graeme Souness feels Joe Allen must do more in games.

Allen started for Stoke City in defeat to Manchester City yesterday.

"He keeps the ball well, but I'd love to sit in front of him and ask him how he'd describe himself as a player. I'd ask him 'are you an attacking midfield player' which I am sure he would say (he is)," Souness said on Sky Sports.

"But attacking midfield players get goals, Joe. He played 132 games for Liverpool and scored seven goals.

"He's 26 and was allowed to leave Liverpool. At 26 your best years should be ahead of you.

"He's neat and tidy on the ball but I want to see someone like him, because he does have good technical ability, not do it on the halfway line and do it further up the field in the final third."
