Liverpool legend Gillespie: Years away from being top club

Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie fears his old club is well away from competing at the table.

Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie fears his old club is well away from competing at the table.

The Scot believes the club has a long way to go before they can regain their position with the top teams in England.

“If you ask anybody from outside the UK who are a big side they would say Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Man United. Liverpool would not be in there," he told talkSPORT.

"Historically they are a big club, but they are a million miles away from those sides at the moment.

“Just look at when they go into the transfer market. Liverpool are looking at £10-12million players rather than the top sides who can spend £25-30million.

"Liverpool just don’t have those sort of resources at this moment in time.”
