Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says they look like title challengers.
The ex-striker watched on as Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool defeated Chelsea in impressive fashion at Stamford Bridge last Friday, and thinks this could be a promising season for his former club.
"You would be daft to say Liverpool can't challenge the top clubs this year, especially because they don't have the distraction of Europe," Fowler wrote in his Sunday Mirror column.
"The key for Liverpool is consistency. They've got a real collection of talent going forward, players you love to watch. We saw a masterclass at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
"But can they produce it against the teams who'll dog it out against them? Can they reproduce it every week?
"They've shown that they have plenty of life in them though, which is all you can ask after an opening fixture list like they had."
