Kenny Dalglish is of the belief that Wayne Rooney is perfectly suited to be England's national team captain.
Many have questioned whether or not the Manchester United forward has the temperament or the leadership qualities for such a role but Liverpool great Dalglish is certain that he is qualified to follow on from Steven Gerrard who retired after the 2014 World Cup.
In his column for The Mirror, Dalglish wrote: 'There are, apparently, still some people who question Wayne Rooney's suitability to be England captain.
'I can't think why.
'Sure, he was sent off for Manchester United a couple of weeks ago for fouling Stewart Downing.
'So what? It was the first time he's been sent off for United for five years. That's not a bad record.
'Then there were supposed to be question marks about whether he was articulate enough to be captain.
'I find that amusing. It's not how you say something that matters, it's what you say. It should be, anyway.
'As far as I'm concerned, Rooney is the ideal choice as England captain in the wake of Steven Gerrard's ¬retirement from international football.
'He has all the attributes a skipper needs. He's an honest player. He's a genuine team player.'
Rooney led England to a 5-0 victory over San Marino in Euro2016 qualifying on Thursday, converting from the penalty spot late in the first half to notch his 42nd international goal for the Three Lions.
England, who sit top of Group E, next take on Estonia in Tallinn on Sunday as they continue their march towards Euro2016 in France.
