Liverpool legend John Barnes would welcome a deal for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

It's reported today Benteke is keen to move to Anfield this summer.

"Christian Benteke would be a great signing for Liverpool," Barnes told talkSPORT. "Daniel Sturridge is a good player but he's not going to be fit until September or October.

"What Liverpool have lacked is a presence up front. They have good approach play, but have been unable to get the ball in the box.

"With Benteke, as well as playing the fluent football Liverpool can, they would also have the option of being a bit more direct. I would be excited about that if he comes."
