Liverpool legend John Aldridge feels Jurgen Klopp should recall Mamadou Sakho to his first team squad.

Sakho was left out in the cold last season before being shipped out on loan to Crystal Palace where he helped the south London side avoid relegation.

Klopp hinted earlier in the summer that Sakho could still have a future at Anfield but the 27-year-old wasn't included in the pre-season matches.

However, Aldridge believes the central defender could even turn out to be a better option than under-fire Dejan Lovren.

“The Liverpool boss clearly decided he wanted Sakho out after his failed drug test and a few other problems behind the scenes, but the guy is a decent defender and he is still at the club after failing to get a move," Aldridge told the Irish Independent.

“Maybe he could be a better option at the heart of the defence than Dejan Lovren?"
