Liverpool legend Graeme Souness thinks Virgil van Dijk is the future of his old club but he'll have to prove it on Saturday against Real Madrid.

The Dutchman will face the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, and Souness has called for van Dijk to deliver his best performance to stop them.

"I see Virgil van Dijk as being Liverpool's main man defensively for the future and we'll have a better idea after this final if that's the case.", three-time European Cup winner wrote in the Sunday Times.

"He needs to be at his best to keep Ronaldo and Karim Benzema quiet."
