Liverpool hero Hamann: Keita can't complain; he's had his chances

Liverpool hero Didi Hamann says Naby Keita is facing a make-or-break moment over his Anfield career.

Keita arrived at Anfield with a huge reputation from RB Leipzig in 2018, but has struggled for form and fitness since then.

"It's been three years now and you have to say he's struggled to make his mark," Hamann told the Athletic. “There's been a gulf between the expectation levels when he came in and what he's been able to deliver. It just hasn't worked out.

"He's had a lot of injuries and when he has played he hasn't done enough.

“He can't have any complaints — too often he's been given chances and not taken them. He doesn't link play particularly well, he likes to run with the ball and do his own thing. I just don't really see where he fits into this Liverpool team going forward.

“I can't see there being much of a market for him in England, but his stock is still pretty high in Germany from what he did at Leipzig.

“You'd be lucky to get more than £15 million for him. Sometimes you just have to accept something hasn't worked out and move on."
