Liverpool hero Gerrard doesn't want the headlines

Liverpool match-winner Steven Gerrard did not want to take the accolades after firing his side to a 3-1 Europa League win over Napoli.

The Reds captain was brought on at half-time, with his side trailing 1-0, to try and kick the team into gear and it worked beautifully with a hat-trick in the final 15 minutes.

But Gerrard said it was the overall team performance which allowed Roy Hodgson's men to grab a vital victory.

"We went a goal down and the manager asked me to come on and see if I could help get the lads back in it. Every one of the lads in the second half was just fantastic," he said.

"Everyone played their part tonight. I'm sure I'll get the headlines but it certainly wasn't just about me."
