Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has been the victim of a fake Twitter account.

The Liverpool Echo says on Wednesday it appeared the Senegal international had joined Twitter after Lazio forward Keita Balde Diao tweeted asking fans to follow Mane's new account.

The account was subsequently shared across dozens of Liverpool fan accounts on the site, and 'Mane' quickly amassed closed to 10,000 followers.

However, the unverified account has since been rumbled as a fake.

The editor of Liverpool's official website James Carroll dismissed the account and asked supporters to unfollow 'Mane' on Wednesday evening.
