Liverpool fullback Robertson hoping injury woes now over

Liverpool fullback Andrew Robertson is hopeful his injury problems are a thing of the past.

The left-back has struggled with his fitness so far this term, missing several important games.

The Scotland captain is now hopeful that he is close to 100 percent fit, as he prepares to get back into regular action.

"Look it's been five weeks, it's not too long for the outside world but for someone who is not used to being out injured it is a long, long time," Robertson said to the Liverpool Echo.

"It was important to take time and let the injury heal and then it was about the rehab and trying to get back as quickly as I can. That's always the way.

"I am not a very good patient, I wanted to get out of the treatment room as quickly as possible but I had to be careful with this one and I am just glad to be back to fitness, hopefully that's all behind me now."

He added on playing Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend: "Sunday is a massive game, of course it is. We need to try and get consistency back into our performances, back into our game. And that is what we've been lacking this season and it always has to start somewhere.

“So today was a very good result [beating Rangers 7-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday] but the result was excellent. We have to keep that going, we have to keep up the intensity and then we'll pick up a few more results.

"The game against Manchester City this weekend will always be difficult, they're a fantastic side and they are flying at the minute. It will be difficult to play against them but us at our best we can always compete. Anything below that and it will be a difficult afternoon. But if we're at our best then we know we can cause problems to any team and that is what we have to aim for.

"It was an exceptional result and a big result for us. The boys were magnificent after a bit of a ropey start, obviously giving Rangers the lead and the fans obviously got up. We managed to quiet them down quickly with the equaliser and then after that I thought we dominated and really controlled the game."
