Liverpool face opposition from Chelsea, Man Utd over TV rights plans

Liverpool will face opposition from Manchester United and Chelsea over their push to go it alone in TV rights.

The Mirror says Anfield managing director Ian Ayre suggested that the deal giving an equal split of the league's overseas broadcasting income - worth £17.3m per year to every club - should be scrapped when the current three-year deal ends in 2014.

Instead, Ayre believes the top clubs should sell their own overseas rights, allowing the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea the chance to increase their income levels.

Ayre is ready to float the idea at the next meeting of the 20 clubs but with chief executive Richard Scudamore a fierce advocate of the collective approach, Liverpool's view will have little sympathy - and seemingly no support.

Even Chelsea and United, the two clubs with arguably most to gain from a change, have nailed their colours firmly to the Premier League mask.
