Liverpool eyeing weekend return for Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge will miss Liverpool's Europa League clash with Rubin Kazan on Thursday night.

The oft-injured striker has been battling a knee problem recently which forced him out of manager Jurgen Klopp's debut at Tottenham on Saturday.

The Group B meeting with the Russian side has come around too quickly for Sturridge but Klopp expects him to be available for Sunday's home encounter with Southampton.

"He's getting better and better," said the German of Sturridge.

"Monday he was outside and it was OK. The target for him is Sunday."

Sturridge has featured three times this season following the hip surgery he underwent in the summer, scoring two goals of which both came in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
