Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has responded to praise from Erling Haaland.

Van Dijk came up against Haaland playing for the Netherlands against Norway on Wednesday, with the World Cup qualifier finishing 1-1.

Haaland had praised van Dijk before the game, calling the Dutchman 'the best defender in the world'.

When told of the comments, Liverpool star Van Dijk replied to a press conference: "Did he say that? It was kind of him."

Van Dijk was ultimately unable to stop Haaland as the Borussia Dortmund star put Norway ahead, before Davy Klaassen even the scores at half-time.
