Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has thanked the England supporters for a positive response to his return to international action after a three-year absence.
Carragher admits the reception could have been different to the one which greeted him as a second-half substitute against Mexico at Wembley on Monday evening.
He said: "Was I pleased with the reception? Yes, I'd like to say a big thank you to the supporters for that.
"I could have understand it if the reception hadn't been that great because I had been out of the England squad for three years of my own accord.
"I have to say a big thank you for the crowd for being the way they were. Maybe it was because it was the last home friendly at Wembley before the World Cup, I don't know.
"I didn't speak to them all individually but there was a party atmosphere and they wanted to send the players off to South Africa and I thought they were fantastic."
