Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg believes that Alisson Becker has shown why the club paid so much money to sign him from Roma.

Alisson was the highlight summer signing from the Reds, coming off the back of a disappointing Champions League final performance from Loris Karius.

As the Reds lifted the Champions League on Saturday after defeating Tottenham, many pointed to the signing of Alisson as a key reason for the success.

"It is unbelievable the way he stayed calm in the difficult situations and the saves he makes, he takes the team through the pressure moments," Achterberg said to reporters about Alisson.

"He's done it in a few games: Napoli to get to the knockout round, Barcelona to get to the final.

"What can you say? Decision-making you cannot train, you train and try to prepare but what he does is so unbelievable in his first year in the UK.

"We bought an expensive goalie but he paid it back with the trophy, he had a big hand in it any way. But the whole team worked their balls off the whole season overall."
