Liverpool captain Van Dijk surprised by LVG's Messi claim

Netherlands star Virgil Van Dijk has gone against his old boss Louis Van Gaal this week.

Van Gaal suggested the 2022 World Cup was fixed to ensure Lionel Messi lifted the trophy.

Van Dijk, who was part of the Netherlands side that lost to Argentina in the knockout stages, denied those claims.

"I heard it this morning, indeed," Liverpool captain Van Dijk told Dutch outlet NOS.

"And that's actually it. It is of course his opinion. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion. I do not share the same opinion."

"I don't really want to say much about it," said Van Gaal earlier.

"When you see how Argentina gets the goals and how we get the goals, and how some Argentina players overstepped the mark and were not punished, then I think it all premeditated game."
