Liverpool buoyant as Sturridge takes step closer to return

Daniel Sturridge has given Liverpool a boost by returning to first team training.

The oft-injured striker has again been sidelined, this time by a knee injury sustained prior to the clash with Tottenham a month ago.

Sturridge returned from hip surgery in September but has managed just three appearances for the Reds in what has been another injury-hit campaign.

However, the 26-year-old trained with Jurgen Klopp's squad on Tuesday and will be monitored by medical staff as he continues to recover from the issue.

It is highly unlikely Sturridge will be included for the weekend's trip to league leaders Manchester City but the Reds are expecting him back in the coming weeks as they look to reinvigorate their flailing attack which has been restricted by injuries to Danny Ings and Christian Benteke.
