Liverpool boss Klopp has pop at Lineker as he considers new attacking options

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp enjoyed a swipe at Gary Lineker as he considered their summer market campaign.

Klopp has an embarrassment of riches going forward following the £36.9million signing of Mohamed Salah and the imminent return to fitness of Sadio Mane.

He could pick a mouthwatering front three of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino with Philippe Coutinho operating in an advanced midfield role behind them.

But that would still leave Adam Lallana, Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings vying for starting spots.

TV luvvie Lineker accused Klopp of disrespecting the FA Cup back in January when a much changed Reds side were knocked out by Wolves.

“If it stays like this, I would say you should perform if you want to play," Klopp told the Liverpool Echo.

“I cannot decide this, it's the performance that decides it. Hopefully we have the opportunity to do things like this (rotate).

“We want to play in three or four competitions as long as even Gary Lineker is happy or whoever. We want to play football for as long as possible and for this we need players. That's the situation.

“Will the squad change before August 31st? Probably, maybe.

“We are not 100% sure. Maybe nobody wants the players we have. On the other side maybe somebody wants to loan them or buy them.

“The plan is in the end we have a squad that is big enough to cope with the intensity of all the tournaments."
