Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish says there's still some way to go before he signs Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing.
Liverpool last night agreed an initial fee of £18million with Aston Villa, rising to £20million, and are now talking to Downing.
He was due to have a medical on Merseyside today and the Reds have offered him a four-year deal worth around £75,000-a-week.
Speaking after arriving in Malaysia on the latest leg of the club's Asian tour, Dalglish said: "We've been given permission to speak to the player.
"We will now try to agree personal terms with him, but it will all depend on the medical. It is a work in progress and we will see what happens and keep you informed."
