Liverpool boss Benitez: Spanish upbringing sets Reina apart

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says goalkeeper Pepe Reina's Spanish sets him apart from the rest of the Premiership's shot-stoppers.

"Goalkeepers with good awareness like Pepe are something that is probably more common in Spain for example, where the keepers often like to start the counter-attack," said the Reds boss in LFC Magazine.

"You will see this a lot in Spain but also in South America, particularly with the Argentinean keepers.

"The first thing you look for in a keeper is how good he is, first and foremost, as a keeper; how good he is in the six-yard box and on his line.

"He has to be able to use his hands properly. After that, if he can use his feet as well as Pepe can, then that is a bonus.

"It is very positive for us that Pepe is also very good with his feet because it means we can often start a counter-attack very quickly."
