As he stalls on signing a new deal with Schalke, a summer move becomes more likely. His contract expires in the summer, and he would be available on a free transfer.

Speaking to Bild, Schalke president Clemens Tonnies said: "I had an appointment with Max and his advisor, which was cancelled by his agent on short notice.

"If someone doesn't want to talk to me, I cannot change that."
