Liverpool advance after second-half burst defeats RB Salzburg

Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages with a win over RB Salzburg in Austria.

The Reds needed only a point to qualify, but the win has now put them top of Group E ahead of Napoli, who also beat Genk on Tuesday.

But Jurgen Klopp's side were tested in the opening stages against a young and spirited Salzburg outfit, who almost shared the spoils at Anfield in their first meeting.

Alisson was forced into making six saves in the first-half, with both sides mustering nine shots on target in total, the most in a Champions League group stage match since 2004.

Scores remained tied at 0-0 at the break, but Naby Keita broke the deadlock after 58 minutes to score his second goal in as many matches.

It only took 100 seconds for Mohamed Salah to double Liverpool's advantage, with the Egyptian scoring from an impossible angle inside the box.

Liverpool now turn their attention to Saturday's clash with Watford at Anfield where they will look to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
