Fernando Torres has revealed his influence in convincing Maxi Rodriguez to quit Atletico Madrid for Liverpool.

The pair played together for two years at Atletico Madrid and Torres is confident the Argentina international can be a star in the Barclays Premier League.

Torres explained to Liverpoolfc.tv: "I talk to him every month or so because I have a good relationship with him.

"We always talk about Liverpool, how big the club is and how I'd like to play with him again.

"He likes Liverpool, he likes the mentality and the history. I'm sure he'll be very happy to join Liverpool.

"I have no doubt he can adapt to English football. He is an international player who's played in World Cups and South American cups. He knows about the top level."
