LIVE FROM WEMBLEY: Chelsea boss Conte says Morata 'absolutely' deserves Spain selection

Antonio Conte has thrown his support behind Alvaro Morata making Spain's final World Cup squad.

The striker was a late substitute in Chelsea's FA Cup final win over Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday.

Conte's preference of Giroud over Morata in recent weeks has led to speculation that the former could miss Russia. But Conte is adamant the 25-year-old deserves to have his ticket booked.

"Absolutely" said Conte in his post-match press conference. "Morata is in a really good form but today I made an important decision because the only way to win against them was to play with a physically strong player in Giroud.

"Alvaro is an important player. It is not my task. In the past I did the job with the national team, but with the World Cup he is right to be in the group of 23 to play. I am the first to put my hands in the fire for this, I am seeing him every day and after this tough season he has for sure improved himself."
