LIVE FROM MELWOOD: Liverpool boss Klopp only focused on Brighton - not Real Madrid

Jurgen Klopp was in no mood to discuss anything other than Liverpool's final Premier League game of the season during his pre-match press conference at Melwood.

Of course, the Reds have the Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev on May 26 to look forward to.

But on Friday, Klopp seemed agitated when prodded about any topical issues that diverted from the clash against Brighton at Anfield - which his side must draw or win to secure a top-four finish. (That is, if Chelsea beat Newcastle United)

There was the question about would he have preferred his side to have wrapped up their top-four spot earlier in the season. Well, you can guess his answer. And yes, it was sarcastic.

He then admitted concern about Mohamed Salah having to travel down to London last night to collect his Player of the Year award.

"I would prefer Mo went to bed early and watched a movie…"

He also shutdown a reporter when she brought up social media, saying: "I am not on social media. What a nice life that is!"

It wasn't all bad though. Klopp did talk about how his players have managed to get through difficult fixtures this season.

"Character, mentality, togetherness. We enjoy working together. It's not the most successful series in the history of football but it's quite successful with some good football on show. That's cool."

And when asked about his choice for the Manager of the Year award, Klopp responded: "Guardiola, of course…but I'm pretty close, though." Laughter rung around the press room immediately.

Later, Liverpool's media chief clarified that Klopp had actually said: "but I'm pretty close with David Wagner."

Further questions on Adam Lallana's fitness, Emre Can's contract situation and other injury news were met with sharp, succinct responses.

And that was it. He was gone within 15 minutes.

With Sunday and Kiev ahead, it's understandable he'd be happier being anywhere else than answering questions from us lot.
