Lennon plays down Celtic fixture change claims

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that the club did not even ask for any help from the Scottish Premier League in regards to altering their schedule.

It was suggested that the SPL help out the Hoops, as they prepare to represent Scottish football in the Champions League Round of 16 early next year, by changing their league fixtures so they do not have too much of a cluttered agenda during their European obligations.

SPL secretary Iain Blair came out and said it would be far too difficult to do this but Lennon is puzzled as to where that actually came from as the Glasgow giants never enquired about fixture changes.

"We have never asked for it (help) so I don't know where this story has come from," said Lennon.

"I don't know why people are asking Iain Blair but Iain has come out and said that it is going to be very difficult to do that.

"It would put the SPL in a difficult position because they have been criticised for not helping teams in the past so I wouldn't expect that to happen to us. We will deal with it."
