Leicester's Simpson avoids prison for assault

Leicester City's Danny Simpson has avoided a prison sentence for assaulting his former girlfriend and mother of his child, reports the Leicester Mercury.

The 28-year-old was ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work by Manchester magistrates' court.

Simpson had been suspended by Leicester while the assault case was ongoing.

After the court verdict was announced, Leicester released the following statement: "Now that legal proceedings have concluded, Danny will be invited to contribute to an internal hearing in the coming days where the extent of any club disciplinary measures will be determined."
