Leicester midfielder Drinkwater, Tottenham defender Rose included, Man Utd ace Rooney misses England squad

Earlier on Thursday, Roy Hodgson named his England squad for upcoming friendlies with Germany and Holland.

Hodgson has called up in-form Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater for the first time while including uncapped Tottenham Hotspur full-back Danny Rose and handing national team returns to previously injured quartet Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Arsenal), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) and Fraser Forster (Southampton).

Manchester United and national team captain Wayne Rooney has been omitted as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

England meet reigning World Cup winners Germany in Berlin on March 26 before hosting the Dutch at Wembley three days later.
