Leicester goalkeeper Ward: Southampton defeat hugely disappointing

Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward says defeat at Southampton was "hugely disappointing".

Saints won 1-0 thanks to Carlos Alcaraz's goal after Ward had saved James Ward-Prowse's penalty.

Ward said: "Hugely frustrating for us. We switched off for maybe 15 minutes in the first half and ultimately it's cost us. We've got to try to put this behind us and take some positives from the game.

"Maybe the penalty went against us which may sound strange to say. I felt we did more than enough to win the game rather than draw.

"Ultimately the penalty means nothing because they win 1-0. We've got to go again, put in some more hard work and try and convert those chances why they come to us.

"I don't know what we can put it down to. We've had a real lack of consistency in our games this year. Ultimately if you don't show that consistency and put the points on the board then you'll be at the wrong end. Thankfully we know we have the games there, the quality in the changing room and the characters available to get us out of this mess."

On if being three points away from the relegation zone, he added: "It's always a concern but we have to focus on the next game. Getting out of that situation is by winning games of football. More performances like that but taking our chances and I think we'll be OK."
