Leicester City chose to get rid of Craig Shakespeare so they could replace him with a high profile manager, according to the Telegraph.
The Foxes parted ways with Shakespeare on Tuesday after winning just one game out their first eight this season.
Shakespeare replaced 2015/16 title winning manager Claudio Ranieri in February when the club were in a similar situation.
The lifelong assistant was rewarded the job permanently after he helped steer Leicester clear of relegation at the end of last season.
But he was awarded just two months into the season before the club's Thai owners decided they would seek a bigger number.
The club will now have to try and pry away a manager mid-season or land a big coup by signing one of the few high-profile managers without a club, which is a list that includes the recently sacked Carlo Ancelotti and ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel.
