Leicester boss Rodgers states atmosphere lift; defends Vardy form

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers says the change of atmosphere at the club is noticeable after victory over Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

The result lifted the Foxes off the bottom of the table.

Ahead of Saturday's clash with Bournemouth, Rodgers said: "I said it could be a season-changing game - that would change the mood for the team and supporters.

"I have definitely sensed that. What we saw was the connection between the players and supporters was back again.

"It is such a big game in the region."

On his team-talk before the Forest win, he continued: "You are always looking to find ways to stimulate the players. These guys are competitive players Everyone was hurt after that previous game [a 4-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup last season].

"It is never about revenge or anything like that, but you know in football you always get another opportunity.

"We reminded the players a little of that feeling [they had after the Nottingham Forest defeat] and about the desire that is needed to win at football.

"We have fantastically gifted players but you can't win in football without the having the desire and mentality to try to work hard and defend well.

"There were questions raised about us back then and this was a great opportunity to respond."

Rodgers also commented on Jamie Vardy's form.

"He is working very hard for the team.

"Okay the goals have not come, but his role for us is still very important on and off the pitch.

"His authority, especially at home, where he has got a great connection to the crowd, is very important.

"Whether he scores or not, he will remain a very important player for me as long as he remains at the club because of his experience and mentality."
