Leicester boss Rodgers delighted with deal for Wolves defender Bennett

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is delighted with their deal for Wolves defender Ryan Bennett.

Centre-back Bennett signed on loan from Wolves for the second half of the campaign last Friday, teaming up with a boss who has been a long-time admirer.

Back in January 2012, with Bennett impressing at Peterborough in the Championship, the then-21-year-old was sought after by Premier League clubs, including Rodgers' Swansea.

Rodgers said, “Ryan will bring in that cover we need. The two centre-halves, Jonny [Evans] and Cags [Caglar Soyuncu], have been outstanding all season, and Wes [Morgan] has been the experienced third choice.

“We wanted to get Filip Benkovic games [on loan at Bristol City], but in order to do that we needed to bring in someone with Premier League experience. Ryan gives us all that.

“I knew him as a young player at Peterborough, I tried to sign him for Swansea so I know about his qualities. He is there if we need him.

“He was delighted to come here and be a part of what we're trying to do for the rest of the season."
