Leicester boss Rodgers admits big expectations for Perez

Brendan Rodgers says Ayoze Perez is integral to Leicester City achieving their goals this season.

The Foxes are trying to break into the top-six, spending big money on recruiting Perez and Youri Tielemans.

The Spaniard scored on debut in Tuesday's win over Scunthorpe, and Rodgers thinks there will be plenty more to come from the former Newcastle man.

“I think you can see in that first 45 minutes why we brought him in," Rodgers said on Perez.

“One of my aims this year for us is to score more goals. If we're going to progress and challenge and be more competitive, we have to score more goals.

“But in order to do that you have to have players who have that instinct to score. You see with him, he could have had three goals in that first 45 minutes.

“He just has this in-built brain to get into the box, to finish, it was a good finish. He had two other opportunities.

“He's shown in pre-season how clever a player he is, how bright he is and what a threat he will be."
