Leicester assistant Appleton unsure of future after Leeds victory

Leicester City caretaker manager Michael Appleton was pleased with his side's 3-1 win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Foxes went behind when Pablo Hernandez scored for Leeds. Kelechi Iheanacho quickly equalised for Leicester, and second half goals from Algerian duo Islam Slimani and Riyad Mahrez was enough to see City advance to the quarter finals of the competition.

With manager Craig Shakespeare being sacked last week, Appleton was delighted with Leicester's perseverance.

"The performance was very good," said Appleton. "When it comes to cup competitions, it is about getting through to the next round, not necessarily the performance.

"The performance comes as a little bit of a bonus. On the back of the performance we had at Swansea at the weekend with a different group of players, that gives you a lot of belief."

Asked if he would take charge of Leicester's clash with fellow manageress club Everton on Saturday, Appleton said: "As it stands at the minute, I am expecting to take the team but, ultimately, I know how things move quickly or slowly depending on the situation," said Appleton. "I am sure I will have more information over the coming days."
