Nicolas Anelka was Bolton Wanderers' hero was they secured UEFA Cup progress with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Rabotnicki Kometal.
Anelka, 28, committed his future to the club in August by signing a new deal that will keep him at the Reebok Stadium until 2011 and again produced the goods when it mattered most.
"Anelka's a good player, he's a quality player and that's why we were so pleased when he committed himself to this football club," said Bolton boss Sammy Lee.
"Every time he goes out on the football pitch you see his total commitment but as I've said on many occasions, I don't want to talk about individuals.
"The team ethic right throughout the side was excellent and I thought we played some very good football."
Lee insisted his men, despite their precarious league position, have a squad capable of rising to the challenge.
He added: "Time will tell but when I looked around at the strength of the bench tonight, and some of the lads who weren't even on the bench, and injuries apart, it was an indication of the strength in depth that we have got."
