Le Havre chief Pierre Wanitez admits they tried to sign released West Ham midfielder Samir Nasri.

The French veteran's move to Anderlecht was confirmed on Friday.

Wanitez said, "He's a player Paul (Le Guen) appreciates. For the moment, only Paul talked with him.

"What is certain is that it would not have been a financial blow for him. I know he has received some very lucrative offers elsewhere (Dubai, Australia).

"The ball was left in his court."
