Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt is on his way to the south coast to complete his move to Southampton.

TMW says Hoedt will join Southampton in a £15 million deal after saying goodbye to his Lazio teammates and flying to England.

The 23-year-old will now fly from Italy to England to finalise his deal and become Mauricio Pellegrino's latest signing at St Mary's.

But while the Saints may insist that the intention is to pair Hoedt with Virgil van Dijk, it seems more likely he is a replacement for his more experienced compatriot.

Van Dijk is currently fuming after being refused a move to a top six club despite handing in a transfer request.
