Lazio coach Sarri: We deserved our Feyenoord defeat

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri admits they didn't deserve anything after their Champions League defeat to Feyenoord.

The Dutch were comfortable 3-1 winners on Wednesday night.

Sarri said:" Our first half was too timorous, we were intimidated by their aggression and pressing. When we conceded the first goal, that was in the air, but not the second,.

“At the end of the day, the statistical differences between the teams were not that great. I did not like the first half and expected us to show a stronger attitude.

“I saw that we were afraid to play the ball. We were apprehensive and then made mistakes. I saw a clear difference in the attitude of the two teams. It is also clear that Feyenoord have three or four players with great pace and we do not.

“We have a lot of work to do. Pressing done with that level of intensity is just pointless. We were getting everything wrong and letting them cut inside us. For the final 25-30 minutes, that is when we did more than Feyenoord."

On their chances of qualifying for the next phase, Sarri said: “Now we have two games coming up at home and we must try to make the most of them. In a group with only six matches, losing one is problematic.

“There is a long road ahead and we still hope to get it back on track, but if this is the attitude, then we won't manage it.

“We approach the Champions League like we're on tip-toes, like we are up to our necks in water. Either we give 101 per cent or we will struggle to stay here."
